Social initiatives

The Marang Education Trust is focused on best practice as an approach to improving the quality of teaching, learning and school management in South Africa. Our purpose is to contribute to the education community through direct provisioning of professional development, support and bursaries.

Marang Education Trust

We work to identify and remove barriers to education for those most in need to enable learners to reach their full potential.

Access to quality learning and overcoming barriers to learning has always been our ultimate goal. Our dedicated Corporate Social Investment vehicle, the Marang Education Trust, is a research based, SACE accredited professional development service provider that partners with under-resourced schools to improve mathematics, reading and leadership and management outcomes.

Teacher wellbeing is central to all support provided to enable schools to implement quality best practices to become self managed and sustainable. The Trust works in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education (DBE), Teacher Unions and Education Stakeholders as a thought leader to contribute to improving education outcomes across South Africa.

Our Programmes

School Support and Development Programme (SSDP)

Marang Education Trust began its school-based support with 16 deep rural schools across four provinces in 2008. In 2015 it expanded its support and development to six provinces supporting 111 deep rural and township schools over a four-year cycle which ended in December 2018. A team of local district-based facilitators/research assistants is responsible for direct support provision to school management teams and teachers in selected schools in on going 4-year support cycles.

Our Programmes

District Partnership Programme (DPP)

Launched in 2012, the DPP is an initiative that adopts a holistic approach towards school and district improvement. The programme capacitates district officials to enable under-performing schools to become steadily achieving schools that are capable of sustainable development. Through the mediation of existing DBE policies, the DPP enables district officials together with school management teams and teachers to implement their roles and responsibilities with dedication and commitment.

Our Programmes

Undergraduate Programme

Launched in 2014, the Undergraduate Bursary Programme was available to qualifying Grade 12 learners from all MET supported high schools, offering fully funded tertiary study opportunities for undergraduate courses. Since inception, the programme has funded 17 students.
